Who are the 1066 Farmer Cluster ?
The 1066 Farmer Cluster is one of many clusters across the country supported by the Countryside Stewardship facilitation fund. The fund supports farmers and other land managers across the local area to collaborate on environmental initiatives. Since its establishment in 2015, the fund has set up 180 groups comprising of 4000 members. The 1066 cluster was formed in July 2022 and is currently made up of 39 members covering approximately 9103 hectares. Our members manage land across the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, stretching between the Eastern boundary of the Pevensey levels and the river BredeeEstuary near Rye.
The 1066 landscape is characterised by a predominantly grassland agricultural patchwork interwoven with a high proportion of woodland cover. A number of waterways flow through the area draining into major rivers including the Brede and Rother.
